The Cape Hatteras Beach Cam

Buxton, NC

Buxton is a town found along the Cape Hatteras National Sea Shore. It is home to one of Live Swell’s favorite shelling spots, see our post Outer Banks Sea Shells: Secrets from a Shell Whisperer. But Buxton is a visitor favorite for its epic fishing off Cape Point, windsurfing the Canadian Hole or catching the views from The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, better known as the Wave Magnet, where you may just catch some surf. Tons of hidden gem shops, galleries and restaurants along the way.

What is the OBX?

The OBX stands for the Outer Banks and are a 200 mile string of barrier islands. You will often hear local’s use the term “life on a sandbar” to explain the unique experience of living in the Outer Banks. Folks who love the OBX, love it for its epic surf, endless pristine beaches, amazing seafood and laidback local vibe.

What to eat: Outer Banks Seafood Market

Benefiting from the Atlantic and two major North American currents (The Gulf Stream + Labrador Current), the OBX is a seafood lover’s paradise. Grill or cook up your favorite seafood from fish fish, green tail shrimp, blue crab, oysters plus more from any of the deliscious local markets. Carawan’s Seafood, O’Neal’s Seafood Harvest, and Billy’s are our favorite! But hey, sometimes on vacation we don’t want to cook! The Outer Banks has plenty of cafe’s and restarants for all taste buds to fall in love with.

Check out our Outer Banks Restaurant Guide for a list of our favorite places.
